Patience in the Shade

In the Serengeti, Tanzania, a lioness rests in the shade, watching the savannah stretch out before her. She appears relaxed, yet her position offers a clear view of the open ground. For now, she waits.

What draws me to this moment is the contrast between stillness and possibility. There is no chase, no sudden movement — only a lioness observing her surroundings. The shade gives her shelter from the heat while she watches for an opportunity to hunt.

A foal separated from its herd could become vulnerable to a predator like her. That possibility gives the scene its quiet tension: the distance between a peaceful moment and a struggle for survival may be very small.

Through this photograph, I want to share the feeling of watching and waiting alongside her. It is a moment that invites a closer look, beyond the apparent calm, towards the alertness beneath it.
